The biggest thing for me in this week is to watch Perseids which is the most famous and spectacular meteor shower. Perseids meteor shower (scientific name Perseids) is a meteor shower which appears near the Perseids gamma star as the radiation point, also known as Perseids gamma meteor shower. It appears every year from 20 July to 20 August and reaches its peak on 12 August. Together with the Quadrantid meteor shower and Gemini meteor shower, they are called the three major meteor showers in the northern hemisphere. Perseids meteor shower is the most active and frequently observed meteor shower and also is the best meteor shower for non-professional meteor lovers. It is the first of the three major periodic meteor showers in the whole year.
Unfortunately, there was extremely heavy rain in my city on 12 August, so I could not see Perseids meteor shower, what is a pity! right ? However, thanks to the internet, I can watch live coverage online. I found that many people made promise when they see meteor shower, and I checked the reason, and there is one: it started from an ancient mystery ‘When a star falls, there must be a soul to make up for it. When a person dies, the soul rises to heaven, and when he ascends to heaven, he brings your wish to god.’ So majority of people believe that their dream would come true when they make promise to meter shower. I also think that maybe people believe the power of universe and nature. Actually, with an increasing number of skyscrapers and city optical pollution, we can hardly see meter shower than before in the city, even hardly see the starry sky. I still remember I can see shiny starry sky on the roof when I was little. If we want to see the beautiful starry sky or the wonderful meteor shower, we have to go the countryside and remote areas.
